Medfield is a smaller, affluent community bordered by nearby Sherborn, Dover, Millis, Norfolk and Walpole. The community was originally founded in 1649 by Rev. Ralph Wheelock from nearby Dedham. Rev. Wheelock is also credited with opening the first tax-funded public school in the United States in nearby Dedham.
Modern day Medfield offers residents the quintessential New England lifestyle. The community prides itself on its excellent public schools, which continually rank among the top ten school systems in Massachusetts. In 2014 the Medfield Public School system was ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the 9th best school system in the state.
Points of interest within the town include the 491 acre nature reservation Rocky Woods, Noon Hill, the Dwight-Derby House, Lowell Mansion, Kingsbury Pond and the Charles River Reservation.
