Walpole is a mid size town bordered by nearby Norwood, Canton, Sharon, Norfolk and Millis. It was originally settled in 1659 and was considered part of Dedham until 1724, at which time it followed the example of nearby Norwood and petitioned Dedham to become a completely separate town.
Modern day Walpole offers its residents a lot. The community hosts many landscaped parks and athletic fields including Francis William Bird Park, a 89 acre park that offers over three miles of paths winding through the park, traversing streams across old granite bridges and passing through rolling, grassy meadows punctuated by mature shade trees, groves, flower beds, and ponds.
Residents who wish to visit or work in Boston enjoy easy access via the Franklin Line of the MBTA Commuter Rail.
